The Theory Behind mental rotation:

Mental rotation is the ability to rotate mental representations of two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects as it is related to the visual representation of such rotation within the human mind.

Mental rotation, as a function of visual representation in the human brain, has been associated with the right cerebral hemisphere. There is a relationship between similar areas of the brain associated with perception and mental rotation.

In the third age there is a decay of the performance in mental rotation's tasks and in general respect to all Spatial Skills (like spatial orientation Skills and Spatial Visualization).

Mental Rotation is therefore an opportunity to keep these spatial skills trained !

Die Theorie hinter dem mentalen Rotation:

Mentale Rotation ist die Fähigkeit, mentale Repräsentationen von zweidimensionalen und dreidimensionalen Objekten zu drehen, wie es um die visuelle Darstellung einer solchen Rotation innerhalb des menschlichen Geistes in Beziehung steht.

Mental Rotation als eine Funktion der visuellen Darstellung im menschlichen Gehirn, ist mit der rechten Großhirnhälfte verbunden. Es besteht eine Beziehung zwischen ähnlichen Bereichen des Gehirns im Zusammenhang mit der Wahrnehmung und mentaler Rotation.
